renault 19 brakes

hello to all this is my first post , but think iam doing it right ,
i have a renault 19 16v karman softop , and have a serious brake problem ,
sorry to ask for help so soon in my first post , electric motor on the brakes is not getting any power so no servo assistance .so no brakes !!!! , if i hot wire the motor the motor runs and brakes ,fine , the relays are ok ,on the board near the windscreen ,
can i leave the motor running all the time to restore the brakes ?? or is that too dangerous ?? how do i check to see where the power should come from , i have only 2 volts comming to it from the board ! so thats why it wont run ,as it needs 12 volts , any help/advice welcome , i love this car and want it back on the road asap regards to all in advance ,

I'd try and remove the ABS if I were you as this system is more trouble than its worth (Seems everyone with it is either catching fire or losing brake power at the minute).

Your system sounds very much like the 'Bendix' ABS system, superceded by a Bosch version in later models.

I know someone who has had the motor feed directly connected - although through an on/off switch in the cabin.

I wouldn't recommend this. I would recommend stripping out the braking system and installing either the Bosch ABS version or the standard direct brakes. I speak from personal experience as my motor caught fire a fortnight ago. Luckily I was near the car or the whole lot would have gone up.

Yep, seems like we've reached Bendix Doomsday just recently.

I'd say all the 19's with the Bendix system that are actually still on the road (can't be that many) really are living on borrowed time now.

Mercedes: Yes you could hardwire it with a switch if it works like that, but normally the pump cuts in and out as the pressure in the accumulator varies. If you have it on permanently, how long is it going to work for before something pops? I don't know but personally I wouldn't drive it or be a passenger in it.

don't suppose the MOT man would like it much either.

can you not just put the bosch abs on? surely it's less work than taking the engine out and re piping the braking system.

You could do. Would be MUCH more work though. The Bosch ABS system still requires the normal non-Bendix servo pedal box setup etc. so you have to do all the same work as removing the ABS entirely, then the Bosch hydraulic plumbing and wiring on top of that.

I thought about fitting Bosch to my black one. Too much hassle for me though, and that wasn't even Bendix to begin with.

Like the others say, this sounds like the Bendix system which is the whole system including the ABS computer and is completely different to the Bosch system. (Or the direct system for that matter).

You could spend a shed load of time and money trying to find which bit of the system has failed and get nowhere.

Correct advice I am sure is to remove the system completely and replace it with standard direct brakes. Bonus is that the brake feel is much improved.
