hello to all on here. first time post so be gentle. lol. just had to replace the gearbox on my megane coupe 2.0 16v as it locked up and punched a hole in the bottom of the box. the old box was jb5053 coded with a white end cap. the new box is coded the same but with a green end cap but the gearchange throw is closer/shorter and feels notchy! can anyone help with this queary? cheers jonathan

definitely JB5xxx or is it JC5xxx (more likely)

The gear linkage may just need adjusting at the box end.

I changed from a JB3 to a JC5 with no problems once it had all settled down

u sure thats JB5? should really be a JC5 box for the megane 2.0 16V Coupe

A JB3 will also do the job from a 19 16V but the ratios will be different.

not significantly different though gingerbobski

in the same way that the phase 1 R19 JB3 boxes are different ratio to the phase 2

hi t.i.b and neo. thanks for taking the time to reply. i'm definately sure it is a jb5*** box. both the tags on the boxes are the same. my mechanic said he did have a few probs lining up the linkage. i've to go back in a week for new gear oil so i'll bug him about it then. do you have any tricks for making the engine more powerful. its got a chip, air filter replacement and exhaust with the cat still in it. not sure if i want to get rid of the cat though!

You'll need the cat... for an MOT

Check your box tags, but either way the casings are all the same so they should both fit the same. If you have to adjust the linkage that's a minor detail, it's outlined in haynes iirc
