Renault 5 16V

Hello every body!!!

The day i've put an 1.8l 16v engine in my old Renault 5 GT Turbo my life got a lot more complicated.
I hope you can help me solve some of the problems i ran into.

Problem nr. 1

After reving the engine over 4000 rpm the idle speed jumps to 1500-2000 rpm.
if i turn of the engine and i start it again idle speed is back to normal.

Anyone got an ideea what is happening?

Anyway if there is somethig you want to ask about R5 and R19 16V i'll be glad to help you.

Its the speed-sensor in the speedcable, in a 5 GT Turbo you dont have a speedsensor in the cable.. without it it can nog recognise if the car is rolling or stand stil..

Yup its almost guaranteed to be the road speed sensor, not sure if there is a way to fit one to a 16v engined 5? David would probably know if not chris should be along somtime soon.

Speed sensor? If the car is rolling or not, the idle value will still be the same if you dip the clutch when rolling, or at a standstill.......

Check the throttle poteniometer is not sticking / out of calibration.

We also do 1.8 16v conversions in R5's, turbo too...

HELP!!!

Something is very very wrong! Last night I was humiliated in a drag race by a r5 turbo. Is there a chance the engine to be running in " Safe Mode"?

I was wondering? What means Gtturbokiller? Getting beaten by an r5 Turbo?

You don't need the road speed sensor. my 5 didn't have one the most probable cause is the throttle pot on the side of the throttle body this probably needs adjusting. what where you changing gear at and was the turbo standard as a 16v 5 will have a gtt any day fact.

oh well, i'm no expert, just thought the turbo would have substantially more grunt over the standard 16v
