Volvo 340 16V conversion
Volvo 340 16V conversion
Published by kaos
8th February 2008
Introduction

where to begin who knows

The car is a bog standard Volvo 340 1.4 4 speed manual

The plan is to drop a renault 19 16v engine in and have some serious fun on the roads and track.

1x 16v engine sourced in devonshire - scary place....

Now it hasnt been touched since bringing it home as i have had little time, but im waiting on my haynes manual so i can figure out how the feck to strip all the crap of it. ive never seen so many bolts on a bloody engine!

Also ive been told it was working when it was removed but who knows. Right now i'm waiting on sourcing volvo parts that are needed to fit the engine in.

earth braiding haha, just wait i have a helluva lot of 4awg coming to me soon uprated earths and power all round!

ah oil and water no problem, oil i'll just drain and hopefully the water inside the engine will dry out etc and once its in and running, it should be better off.

How's this going? I'd love a F7P in a RWD. Whats involved (involvoed) in this conversion? I presume the volvo is renault engined but do the mounts and bellhousing line up? These have the gearbox back near the axle too don't they?

Progressing slowly.

its not a lot of work in reality but i have dug myself in to a pit at points by going sofar with out certain parts ready to use and so on.

not alot is really involved. Volo parts here n there amongst the renault parts.

and yes its transaxle set up. and no you cant use the renault engine mounts as one of the volvo ones mounts on the sump.

Welded.

I can get an LSD for it for £1,00 but it needs a 2grand rebuild. And trhats a old rally 300 one IIRC. But quaife will make them for £600 if you haven enough people!
