Well, as you will know from my other thread in this forum I've discovered an attraction to the old Vectra B's.
I was offered the blue Supertouring Vectra for a good price by my mate, at which I duly obliged and it spent many a month soldiering me and my tools to work, only letting me down once when the gearbox decided to throw in the towel. In the end I ended up spending a lot of money on the engine, having the intake tract ported, a decent racing exhaust put on and an uprated clutch and lightweight flywheel. In the end she was making about 210bhp by my estimation but the mileage was being racked up at an alarming rate. In the two years I owned it I had put 50K on it!
Then my boss (who has a part-share in a car garage) told me about a facelift Vectra B that he'd just taken in part-ex. 4 years' younger than the blue Vectra, 40K less miles on, full GSi spec - Recaro interior, Irmscher bodykit and interior - the works. All the rims refurbed, brand new set of tyres on all 4 corners and recent cambelt and pulleys and a good service all round. The going rate for such GSi's was around the £3K-£4K mark and I picked this up for £2600.
After a while though, it was being put on again for work in the same way as the blue one was. I bought it in June on 88K and it's just passed the 100K mark, that's 12K in around 4 months..... not good!
Anyway a fortnight ago I sold the blue Vectra... for a measly £800. Sad, but it was sat doing nothing and I was in desperate need of a diesel to go to work in and absorb the mileage.
The £800 I got was spent the following weekend down in London, £750 on a nice little Ford Escort diesel van, 1 years' MOT, tax til January and a good set of tyres on, very very little rot or rust generally.
Having the van has meant I can keep the mileage (and thus depreciation) down on the GSi and it also means I can think about tuning it up without worrying if it breaks down so much.
Alas the mods have already started, the badgeless imitation Irmscher grille has been moved across from the blue Vectra before I sold it:
And last week I offered up the set of 18" Alessio rims I bought about a year ago!
Looking good. However two of the 18" alloys need new tyres, the size on them currently is an unusual 215/40 section tyres, and nowhere seems to have them in stock. They are also quite costly (£100+ each) so I am thinking of sizing up to 225/40/18 tyres which are more common and sticking those on the back, with the remaining 215/40 wheels bolted on the front.
That's about all for now, but stay tuned!
