Kamasa 55774 Ratchet spanners

Righty I got these a wee while back Kamasa | Spanner Set Ratchet Ring 16pc (55774)

8 - 24mm ratchet spanners, theres no 20mm spanner though which is annoying, although in all honesty rarely used.

The rrp is 165 quid, I paid a good bit less than that, well less than half that new so got a bargain, works otu just over 4 quid a spanner at my price.

Anyway, all have a 72 tooth ratchet, I thought the smaller ones wouldn't but they did. The ratchet is fixed, so to go the other way you have to flip the spanner. Some of the spanners ratchet mechanisms are slightly tight in spots, nothing major but if its a free thread your on it will not ratchet.

The main problem is the fact its a fixed straight head, most ratchet spanners have a 15 degree tilt and a switchable direction, so you can get into things easily. The fixed flat head means a lot of jobs you can't use them and have to sude a normal spanner to get them started or a normal ratchet.

The spanner raxck is quite good theres a provision to lock it closed with a padlock, but tbh you can get a spanner out with it closed over if you bend the plastic. But its a very neat tidy and even has screw fixings on the back so it can be wall mounted.

A flex head or even better a double flex head spanner is more versatile but value for money the kamasa wins, you won't get a 16 piece set of decent quality for the same money. So I would recomend it. You can get it for far less than the retail price if you shop around.

Overall 6.5/10

B&Q have straight head grey coloured ratchet spanners.. about £2-3 a pop regardless of size iirc.

Not bad, but these are the same as yours - the lack of angle is annoying as you say. I only picked up a 10mm, 2x13, and a 15/17.

I will fill in the gaps in size later when need be, just got the ones that would be handy for me just now.

I've not actually used them on anything hard yet, but the click of the ratchet feels nice

They have a name on them of which I can't remember (not B&Q). I'll post a pic later, they look nice at least!

£2/3 a pop for any size? Bargain, b&q here can't touch that, they are about a tenner each.

I also have some cheap 2 quid shot 10mm and 13mm ratchet spanners, they are far inferior to the kamasa ones. I took some pics.

cheapies

straight head

The Kamasa one is the chrome finished 2008 one, note the extra length, better leverage and you can use it thanks to the 72 teeth ratchet on it. The cheapy is a 45 or so tooth effort.

The higher quality of the kamasa shows here with a smaller thinner head

Obviously as good as the kamasa is it can't quite match the blue point or snap on ones for quality but for the money and the amount you get its a bargain even at the full retail price.

Tools are an area where quality really does matter, however snap on isn't the be all and end all.

I have loads of tools I could review, is anyone interested in more reviews on tools?

I've got 2 sets of Halfords professional ratchet spanners.

Dont use them much, but every now and then you come across something where they are worth every single penny.

e.g. the other week swapping the clio's steering column, undoing the nut off the end of the pinchbolt through the firewall.

yep thats a nightmare job, if its a manual rack i do it from underneath everytime,, the ps racks easier through the footwell.

I use ratchet spanners all the time in the work, then again I use most tools all the time in the work. I work on a such a variety of vehicles that i need to, I may be doing a HG on a Sirion in the mornign then doign an air chamber on a unit in the afternoon.

well they arent for cranking stuff up to torque, if you use them for that then they probably will break eventually.

They are great for spinning on and nipping up a nut or bolt in confined areas. After that if you want it tighter, use a normal spanner for the final 1/4 turn
