Project Red Devil

Well it seems as tho the R5 has now turned into my project and thus have decided to get together a project report so u lot can see what i am up to!

Picked this 5 gtt up the day before gumball:

At the mo she is tungsten grey with a red metal flake lacquer over the top wich doesnt look bad but i want her back to tungy grey wich explains the project name. lol

But on the journey back the engine overheated and blew the headgasket. So rather than pay some cowboy to rip me off and only put a std headgasket back on i decided to get my hands dirty and have a bash at the headgasket myself:

Firstly i had to remove all the piping wich was easy as fook and also remembered to take a quick diagram of the configuration to allow me to easily refit:

Mostly removed:

My living room is starting to fill up!!

New Head Gasket and Head:

Shiny!:

New Head fitted to inlet & Exhaust manifolds with new gasket:

New head back in bay:

Adjusting Valve Clearences with a feeler guage:

All Back together:

Unfortunately i wasnt as diciplined as i would have liked with the camera so i didnt get too many pictures.

After she was back up and running i managed to get a stand pass for donny and was really thinking of something else i could do to jazz her up a little, ICE of course.

So i set about ripping the small install from my 19 ph2.

Amp - 222w Sony Explode (Red Yay)
Speakers - 6x9 Mutant X & Pioneer door speakers
Headunit - JVC CD Tuner (Nowt Special)

So set about mounting the speakers in the uncarded doors and running fresh wires thru to HU:

Once that was done i then realized i didnt actually have anywhere to mount the 6x9's due to the rear being stripped.mmmmm......the floor
and came up with this:

Looks pretty cool if u ask me lol

19th April 2007

Picked up a new rear bumper off emay just cos i liked the renault lettering on the stainles:

also dunc sorted me out a std grill in tungy grey (Cheers Dunc):

and i dug out my old 19 silencer a burnt tip jap can:

i was initially going to have a side exit exhaust due to the new rear bumper but i have decided to have the jap can coming out the std exit rather than the centre exit i have now. this will mean slightly cutting the stainless plate but will look ace once done.

23rd April 2007

Well courtesy again of dunc and his wonderful deals i managed to get some more goodies for my 5 at a bargain basement price:

Front Mount intercooler + Samcos and hardpipes

Moded std bumper for FMIC

Fuel Cell:

Pick all these up on thurs/fri so if i have time i will fit em over weekend.

Going to look well smart and will allow me to run some higher boost, just need a bigger turbo :

Friday 27th April

After picking the bits up yesterday i decided to get cracking puting it together on the 5.

Heres what ive done so far:

Wipped the top of the carb off with the plate

Then fitted the new silicon elbow

Now that i have removed the pace intercooler and the relative boost hoses i have now been able to mod my induction filter with the old std boost hoses:

Now that i have no breather outlet i decided to use my old green mini filter that matches the induction kit (off my ph2 19 )

thats all for now. just about to take bumper off and start fitting FMIC

Friday 27th April....continued

Removed bumper:

due to the positioning of the pipework of the itercooler i had to move the rad over an inch:

also had to knockout a bit of metal on either side to allow the intercooler to sit propa!:

Fitted:

I then started fitting all the pipework wich tbh was not as hard as i initially thought after moving the rad there was so much more room to play with.

Here is the finished pipework. Looks mint propa shiny yeah:

from the other side. I had to change the placement of the induction kit but imo i think it looks pretty funky sticking slightly up.

Fitting the dump valve was a mission! the outlet was made so it sits right behind grill. man this is gonna be loud.

Just before i packed up for the day i trial fitted the new bumper ove the intercooler. Looks ace but i am going to make my current one fit as it has already been chopped.

i couldnt resist having a look at what she'd look like with std grill. Looks much much better. even prefer the bad boy bonnet with std grill

enough for today more tomoz

Saturday 28th April

Got up really late today but cracked on after 10 cups of coffe sorting the bumper for the IC.

Cut out the bumper and grill Mesh:

Fitted:

Needs tidying up a little and the sides filling in with either mesh or fiberglass.

Oh BTW the Masking tape is holding the badge on i had to do this as some backstreet trader sold me some dodgy peice of crap

Right thats the end of the day for me. FMIC all done dusted and bumper bacl on.

Took her out for a raz and she seemed more responsive, i think maybe the lobster elbow must be cracked somewhere as she also idles alot better.

Looks the Bollox:

Monday 14th May 2007

Right well not much more to add..

Sourced a 2nd hand Bailey Dumpvalve off ebay as i loved this on my scooby and also it gets another bit of chrome under the hood and gets rid of all the red, completely gone now

Here is a crap shot:

i am hoping that my door cards should turn up this week after ordering them a month ago from some complete numpty!! But TBH the door cards will prolly be the last thing i do for some time on the 5 (Except for maintenance etc) as i willl be starting my original project R19 16v Chammy PH1 Restoration (Well Minor anyway)

Reet,

Just a tad more to add as i have been hard at work on the 5 again......

With FCS coming up i deided to pull me finger out and start fitting the Fuel Cell. Got her all fitted and decided it looked so crap in alloy. Gave it the racing look but i started thinking paint was in order.. So here is a picture tour!!

This is the base product:

Primed Up:

During Wet Sanding:

PAINT!!!!

oooooohhhhhh Different:

The next step really put a huge smile on my face

I had previously purchased a replacement rear bumper wich had a couple of changeable center plates, I decided to use the stainless letters that had been mounted on a bit of black acrylic.

Here is the end product:

And in the 5!!

Really really please with it I am also currently working on some new door cards. I have decided not to use the std ones cos they really look tatty. These should be going in tomoz so WATCH THIS SPACE!!!!

Been busy making door cards, well actually door card. This was kinda a prototype as, with everything on this car, its a first attempt for myself.

Pretty Cool me thinks:

Still needs propa screws and the plastic trim cleaning and possibly darkening...

BTW if anyone hasnt noticed this car isnt going back to std I am going to keep my PH1 19 Std instead!

Another entry into the proj rep that has been forced upon me lol

Last week the fuel pump started to fail nearly every day and i had to get out and twat the thing with a screw driver to get me home So after recieving the new pump and filter i decided to crack on:

New Pump and Filter:

Taking the olduns off was a bitch as the jubille clips had rusted to fook (Possibly due to the fact that the whole lot was oem off the prouction line back in 1991! Still orig pump!!)

So cut the pipes and got the old shite off:

Due to me having to cut the pipe, it left a narrow connection onto the fuel pump wich gave me so much aggro trying to get the new pump on but after a lot of shouting swearing nearly crying i got the bugger on.
Shoved on the filter and was all done and dusted:

Had to got to work this avo so demo'd it downt he a38 and it was shite, stil the same ish as before at high revs

After getting home i thought maybe the carb needed resetting up so had a play and FOOOOK MEEEEE Boost Booost BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOST

Thanks Man, I made them from Thin Hard Board (Stuff used in kitchen draw bottoms) accompanied with Double Sided tape and Bass Box/Car Carpet

Because i wasnt using my std door cards and one of em was really buggered i smashed out the lumpy bits ie arm wrest and used the door card as a rough template. Wvalla I must say i am impressed and the girlfriend loves the fact that i have done the passanger side without a handle as its like she is cheuffer driven every where
