Right, I was contacted by Tom to do his gearbox change as it is making a racket...
Oh boy was it! My diagnosis so far is that the imput shaft bearing has gone...
he dropped it off on wednesday night, so i could do it at the weekend.
Saturday 4th November
Today i got to work on it.
He dropped off a new battery and clutch to do at the same time, so i got straight to work and fitted the battery:

AS i opened the bonnet i immediatly spotted why the gearbox failed after so little mileage after recon:

yes the boot on the bearing has lost its clip and they cable tied it on, this is not enough to keep the oil in! so it has leaked out, causing it to run near enough dry.
I then undid the hub nut in prep to replace the driveshaft...
I also noticed it had the wrongf coolant cap,

Correct one:
It even had colour coded gearbox oil
