customer car repair, faulty running

CHR customer car: Mike F's mk2 Clio 1.2 16V

Mikes car despite only being 3 or so years old had a very annoying habit and had it for a long time, poor idle and cutting out.

I said I could sort it and I did.

He came by one day in the pouring rain I had a look and say the inlet manifold was full of oil. So sent him away to come back another day.

He came back when the sun was shining and left the car with me for an hour.

The powerhouse that is the 1.2 16V engine

the brown in the left corner is actually an oil puddle!

To get to the throttle body you actually have to remove the inlet manifold.

the inlet air temp sender

the fly by wire throttle body

a bit dirty

After a clean up

the inlet ports on the head

the cover over the ecu plugs is a poor design, it was also not fitted correctly by renault so was rattling around

still mopping the oil out!

After this work was completed the car ran as it should. Mike informed me a month of so later that the car was still fine and I have not heard from him again so it must be ok.

The breather set up on this engine is a very poor design which adds to this problem.

This is the same engine as my birds motor. It's quite nippy for a 1.2 I reckon! Pissed 100 easy. Never took it above though!
