Yeah im confused as well. the 172 box is the strongest box you can get in standard form to cope with the power. Most people think the GTT box is strongest. when does the torque start hitting the gearbox. You have already gone up to about 3k-4k already and then once the turbo has got to full boost its where the most strain is put on to the gear box. The gearbox from the r19 is strong but how much testing has this had unless somebody has stuck a turbo on the car. the 172 box is known to take the power, its just peoples poor driving skill that ruins them, short shifting being one of them.

what am i on about, read the post. this is what i am going on about!

they are all jb3/jb5 gearboxs, but from what ive heard from a few profesional friends the 172 box cant take a more than 200lbft before they start to give up. have a read up on cliosport

How many of them then put a valver gearbox in them or a GTT box into them? they keep with the 172 box. Its all about how the power is put down.

I was hoping it would have been, but its still at the rolling road, and wont be ready in time to get it up there, but will be at lots of shows after that. Yes a heavy foot is always good, but when somebody with a 172 turbo conversion in a 5 can wheel spin in 4th gear in the dry do you think a heavy foot is going to be needed? I will still have all the other problems to sort out before putting more power down, one being tires, looking at the toyo r888. The clutch i dont know how long its going to last. Currently a valeo version capable of 200bhp roughly, running in time. Driveshafts will be looking at getting a stronger one made up, just need to get in contact with the company. Then it will be up pod and on track days, main reason why i built this car.

good good, a mate of mines got a 172 turbo conversion in a 5, runs a big turbo and standalone mind. wus checking out his car last weekend, all sounds good n the hood. difference is his car doesnt make much torque so the box in theory should last longer.

Who is that whos got one in a 5? I only know two people at present who have got their car running 172 turbos in a 5, thats a person called steve and scoff. Nice conversion to do. But one let down of it is the bonnet bulge you need to put in place so it fits which i dont like.

the man like scoff, you know him? guessing your on rtoc to? yeah had to pop up there sat to pick up a turbo so i could get the clio to fcs, and i also know steve, hes down the road from me in weston, both good chaps both very good conversions.

Dont know either personally, just from rtoc board.

Not doing the mapping myself, my car had its basic ECU tuned by AVT which used to be called torsion tuning. I know at the start it was quite difficult to get it running without it running extremely rich, but in the end got it ticking over fine. Thats as far as they got basically, starting up and running in and out of the building. A rolling road down in Wickford, Essex is doing the final map for it as they deal with these ECUs a lot and in theory shouldn't take too long to do, find out today if they have started it though, not liking the idea of my car being down there and when they get a chance they will sort it out was hoping it would be ready for FCS

178bhp at 6psi car should be on road next week once it passes its MOT then run the car in and then tune it up when turning the boost up to what i want. See how it goes first

Why not, engine has been built to go up to take that sort of psi, dont think it would be road capable though even with toyo r888s, 1bar im looking at 250bhp.
