Lightbulb Club Car anyone?

Was having a wee think to myself last night and think I may have a good (possibly shite) idea.

'Get our very own - Retro-Renault - Club car'

Now I know what your all thinking, chet struggles enough to keep the site going with the limited funds that come in, how's he and partners in crime going to finance this adventure? Well I believe that by pooling together, even us unpaid members (will rectify that as soon as my paypal has been topped up) can help in our own little way.

First off we need to aquire a car, possibly someone, somewhere may have one that they want off their drive but knows it's got potential and doesn't want to scrap it Hence nice, large and free donation. (Chet's wallet doesn't top itself)

Secondly:- Someone who has the knowledge, skills and a few hours a week going spare to do the mechanicals to get it through an MOT (Possibly Chris - just throwing names about here). Also as a group we probably have all the spare parts needed that could be donated/sold on the very cheap to aid in getting the car running as it should. Also club could offer free/discounted full membership to those contributing.

Thirdly:- assuming the bodywork/paint is in decent nick, a re-spray may not be required. Enter Bidderman (if he so wishes) to step in and get the detailing done (I've seen the pics, you do good work). Nice mint looking bodywork for free.

Lastly:- Graphics/decals whatever you want to call them, cosmetics like alloy re-furbs if we can't aquire a decent set blah blah etc etc..... Cash donations or eagle eyed e-gayers can aquire pretty much everything else needed.

Now it's done, what to do with it????????

Well first off it'll obviously be going round all the shows/track days (great advertisement), any trusted members may borrow said vehicle to attend shows if their car is off the road. Probably some more uses for it too but I'll leave that up to the knowledgeable people.

Say this happens and all goes well, what to do next?????

Speculating that the project is finished at the end of this year:-

Well put it to all the shows in 2009, international ones included. Get as much advertisment out of it as possible and at the last show of the year or FCS 2010(if there is one), whichever has the biggest potential, Raffle it off! Say £20 a ticket, limited to 100 tickets (Keep the odds decent and increase the chances of selling out) and if all goes to plan then it's £2000 in the clubs pocket to go on to hopefully the next project.

Hopefully this was a good Idea and everyone chips in their 2 pence in thoughts and suggestions to make this a plausible plan and hopefully get the ball rolling.

I'm definetley up for doing this.

I will now go and prepare myself for the barrage of criticism heading my way

Oh forgot to say, very good idea. The more project cars on the go, the better and things like this can look great at the shows

Yes one will be coughing up in 7-9 days. Really don't understand why Paypal takes so long to process payments ???

Anyway, bit off subject and don't want this to turn into a paypal discussion.

think this has been mentioned before, and i think the debate was a few things like where would it be kept and registered, insured,etc.... then if someone uses it, for how long? costs of it in their use, then there'd be arguments over who's used it the most, who's put more into it, etc etc etc,

idea wise, good, practicality wise, not so good

Yeah, nice idea but would go wrong really quickly.

I generaly find people who pay into these ideas normaly want something in return. TBH i think simons maxi car would do as a club car. He ownes it but slaps a load of RR graphics over it and takes it to all the club meets. if anyone want's to donate to the cause then it's all good but you know from the start you're never going to own the car nor have rites to drive it.

Hmmm, ok then. Good points there but I may have some answers!!

Q: Where would it be kept
A: Senior member who has the space

Q: Who's it registered to?
A: If possible register it to the site, or Chet seeing as he owns it!

Q: Who uses it and for how long?
Think I answered this already, only members who can be trusted not to thrash/smash the thing and if they do they cough up for repairs. Only to be used by members to attend shows, there will be NO! "Can I borrow as my cars broken" bullshit.

Costs of it in their use!
Come on, play the game here! You want to borrow it, you get yourself insured for the day/weekend and You fuel it etc etc.

Final note, if people are going to whinge about who put the most in, and if you think you are going to be one of them, then don't contribute, Simple. There is no place for petty mindedness when it comes to a venture like this.

Criticism Round 2 - DING DING

yeah, and to be fair if someone had it on their drive they would be the one doing most of the work to the car and there will always be someone critisizing the manner in which repairs were done.

I'd sudgest getting Micks tourer if this went ahead or continuing with my last post, the maxi project.
