More than likely not tbh. The old one was quite server intensive and a shoutbox goes against the purpose of the forums

Yeah, an annoucement suite would be much more usefull mate. Something that mass PM's and/or emails everyone in the database. Well... I think so.

I liked having the 'recent threads' list down the side on the old site, that's generally how i navigated. Any chance of this, or having it as a user option at least?

The problem with that is people use it solely for navigation so there are a lot of posts that go unnoticed because its not in the recent list.

I disagree. Besides, surely that's up to people, what if it was an option? I never miss posts, because I don't use it exclusively

I now push everything that I want people on RSC to see through the Annoucement suite which mass PM's and emails everyone. It's annoying if you don't want to receive them but there is an option to opt out from getting them and it does get peoples attention. It also reminds inactive users that they're signed up and in our case has made them come back and get stuck in on the community again.

Obviously you wouldn't grant access to it to users below Moderator/Admin level but it's useful. A recent topics list is always going to be popular though as people want to see an overview of what's 'Active' rather than searching for things by forum. I'm a firm believer that the search feature is great but not everyone shares that view.

Recent topics are listed on the index page. which will be the main page once the site goes live

I've not looked to deep into teh mass email/PM options here but i think its quite flexible. More so than phpBB anyway!
