Fuel cut off r19 td
Hi,
I've just found this site and need some help. i'm pullin ma hair oot. I have a renault 19 td. It was cutting out and then wouldn't start. I was told it was an alternator problem. I put a direct line from the battery to the fuel cut off which allows the car to start. I have fitted a new altenator but the problem remains the same . Any suggestions? Cheers |

aye its broke.
Obviously theres a wiring/fuse issue between the ignition switch and the stop solenoid somewhere. Check the fuses then the brown plug inside the aux fux box on the passenger inner wing, the connection can be dicky and melt the plug.

Cheers for the reply,
I found 1 wire that had come loose in the aux fux box, which traces through the bulkhead into i guess the ignition circuit. dont know if this was loose or my investigations have broken an already dodgy connection. I am getting continuity with the connection for the stop solenoid with earth, is this right? I should read 12v at it, I dont think it should also be going to ground. Cars going to the garage today, i cant afford any more time on it. I'm a nuts and bolts man, electrics fry ma heed. nice avatar chris reminds me of my girlfriend. |

did the wire pull all the way out? it may be touchign the shell in there thus shorting to earth now.
It shouldn't go to earth at any point even when off, should just read 0 then go to battery voltage when running

Aye the wire was all the way out, after a bit of research round the site it seems like the loose wire is from an immobiliser(didnt know one was fitted) The dodgy looking bit of mains cable that dissappears through bulkhead and up behind the glove box. I re-crimped and taped it up. There must be a short somewhere cause I'm getting a continuity with earth on the fuel stop valve lead, I thought it should only read 0 and then battery voltage to open the valve.

the black box is the glowplug relay box is it not?
It doesn't run an ecu as its a mechanical diesel, not the modern EFI diesel.

feed will come from the ignition switch or a relay, but I am positive its fromt he ignition switch directly, been a while since I done any 19 diesel work, they are a dying breed.

well if it is fed straight from the alternator it has to go through a relay, as the ignition switch would trip that to activate it

it could do, you'll need to do some investigation.
