Slow turn over.

I know this isn't for a renault but wondering if anyone can help. My mates asked me to look at is car its a VW Jetta 1.8 Gti. Basically it won't turn over properly just turns really slowly like theres not enough power, tried two other batteries, a booster pack and jump starting.

It could be a bad earth. try cleaning the connections to the body and perhaps adding another earth cable direct from the battery to the body of the car.

try using a jump cable fromkt eh battery neg to the engine, if that helps then as doc says sort the earths.

Other wise it could be the pos side or a duff starter.

Right tried Docs plan of using the jump leads on both pos and neg, still exactly the same. Now as Chris said think it might be a duff starter. Bloody German cars!

Removed the starter and connected it to the battery via jump leads. seemed to spin ok. Is there any other way of checking it?

bench testing doesn't always tell you how good it is under load.

so you never left it on and put a jump lead from the battery to the block to see if it was the earth?
