Thumbs up removing gearbox

hey people!! just a quick question... i saw someones project report on here the other day an they had managed to remove the gearbox without being under the car, the bloke lifted it out from above! my question is: what steps are needed to do this??? what other bits do i need to remove first before lifting it out?

talk to bbracer, he did it by taking (i think) the coolant reservoir mounting bracket off. Amongst other things. He's got a video somewhere of the box being lifted.

yeah the bloke im on about had a vid of it so it must be bb.. if i can get it out that way is it possible to do the clutch from that position as ive still not had it done!

you don't need to remove the coolant bottle bracket it just lifts up and out.

And yes obviously you can do the clutch like that

yes theres a tool for realigning it, but tbh as long as you have it centred with teh pressure plate, feel in the gaps round the edge the box should go on with a bit of wiggling.

you need a 6mm allen key bit for the clutch cover bolts, although theres a very remote chance its just an 11mm socket.

you need to support the engine, use a jack with a bit of wood between it and the sump, or you can crack it.

get the speedo cable and gearlink rod off (easy to forget as is draining the box oil.

the starters bolted to the box, it should have a bracket at the back but it may not so it may drop down and break its wire.

don't drop anything like the box onto your head etc.

lmao, ill try not to!! im going to try an do it the way bb did it i think,its booked into the shop on friday but im impatient an fancy a challenge! if the worst happens i can just take it to the shop as planned,got nothing to lose really! got the clutch kit for £53 from a local parts shop, jus got to pick it up tomorrow!! an if the weathers ok, i think ill start it!

how do u drain the box oil? is there a bolt to undo on it like there is when u do a oil change?
