Gear selection woes

Finally got the car back from having new clutch fitted, 2 frikkin days! Anyway, chap said gears might take some getting used to and he wasnt joking. Going up the box not too bad, not as smooth as it was. However the real problems come going down the box and trying to select first, 3rd to 2nd and 2nd to first are VERY difficult to engage. My first thought was that for some unkown reason they havn't filled the box back with oil, im going to check the level in the morning. He said he would like the car back in a week once the clutch has bedded in to give it a once over and possibly adjust the linkage. However im impatient and daily drive requires quite alot of stopping in traffic which is going to be a pain with it being so difficult to select first. Any ideas?

clutch drag a real possibility if it never got a new cable and pedal.

Did they fuck abotu with the linkage? they should never have trouched it, they may have left out a bush for it though, I know someone who done that then dicked about with the linkage and then I had to sort it, eh Doc!

No new cable or pedal, they are being done soon by myself. The cable was new last year when the old one snapped it is however not a gen renault one. Never been a problem with it untill now. As for if they have fiddled with the linkage Ive no idea. Im hoping I can get them to look at it on Saturday.

Took it for a quick drive and from what I can tell its the pedal thats the problem, give the pedal a firm press and it selects alright. Theres quite alot of travel on it but theres times, when accelerating vigerously that the travel goes and pedal is fairly firm and its selects perfectly.

Right fitted a new pedal, all on correct and im still having trouble! Unhooked the cable at the box end and the release arm has quite alot of play in it? Also getting alot of exhuast banging on the underside of the car when I change down or come off the throttle (not all the time). Garage are having it in wednesday, going to fit a new selector arm as they believe they may have bent the one on the car which is giving me trouble. I cant see it being the case as its not always difficult to change gear.

i think me an u have got almost the same cars! apart from mine being ph2!! mine was dodgy on gear change until i got the clutch done, and my exhaust bangs against something but all the time!! even on tickover! had a look under it the other day and theres a pipe that splits off from the pipe that leads to the back box, it looks like somethink has been cut off an they have welded the end of it back up? *chris* do u no what would of been connected to the end of it or does it sound like the wrong exhaust?

Just to throw a random comment in, you should only select first in any car, whilst stationary, just like reverse.

Sounds like it could do with an oil change

maybe the one you put in isn't of the right grade and it's thickening up to much in the cold, though a bit of a stiff one on a cold mornin is quite normal

OK, thanks, I'll bear with it for a bit. tbh i find once it's warmed up and i've given the stick a good waggle i can stick it in much easier.
