air filter

if i buy a performance air filter will it connect straight to the pipe connected to the throttle body?

also because the previous driver had been driving about without the air filter properly connected should i run some fuel cleaner through it?

Depends on the airfilter you buy.
If it's r19 16v specific then yes, it should come with everything needed to connect it to the the tube that connects to the throttle body.
If it's a universal one (like the max power specials which are just as good as the £90 jobbies) then they come with a selection of joints with which to connect the pipe up to the air filter

It won't hurt to bung some injector cleaner into the fuel tank, you may even get a few extra mpg out of it but as the air is fed through a port and the fuel is fed through an injector into the combustion chamber, running a car with the airfilter not connected properly makes no difference to the fuel side of things.

Can you recomend an injector cleaner? is it something like redex?

Sounds like a worthy thing to do!

how did you fit it on,because the pipe from the tb is oval and the air filter connector is round. i were just going to try and squeeze it in and try n tighten it up but i think that may leave air holes.

thats what i did on mine, squeezed it in and tightened it with the jubilee clip.
Then i went around the edge of it with a glue gun to plug any gaps.
You could use a mastic type sealer as well though
