i am getting a heavy clonking noise from the engine bay mainly under acceleration and when lifting of after hard acceleration, this says to me dead or dying rear mount.

check the front gearbox mount first, as this is the easiest to replace.
Open the bonnet and get someone to rev the engine and let off, you should then see by the way the engine moves if it's the front gearbox mount.

The rear mount is a pain in the arse to do, last time i had my engine out, i replace the rear mount then, just to be on the safe side.

the enginewill lift up and clonk down again, in extreme cases the engien can swing back and hit the bulkhead.

If the rear mount goes it (the engine) will swing forward when coasting (leadign to a silent cabin again) and then at idle or accelerating it weill cut into the power steering rack.

also revving it in neutrals a crap test, get someone in and hold it on the clutch

right went out and tested it today. reved in in neutral and the engine didnt seem to move that much.

also held it on the clutch and same thing.

however when i did these tests a few days ago reving in neutral made the engine rock a litlle could do the other test.

if i rock the engine by hand it moves a little bt nothing ott.

does this sort of make sense, not really sure how much the engine should move when the mounts are in good nick.

any advice much appreciated thanks
