steering column play, but already welded?
ok so todays job was to weld the steering column as it has the usaul 'go where it wants' play, pulled back the rubber and theres already a weld there, one either side of it, not all the way round, so does this mean its not the column?
Whats the cause!? |

well the obvious solution surely to any normal person would be, look at the base of the column whilst someone rocks it, if theres no play there then yes its something else.
Something else could be rack bushes, track rod inner balljoints and so on.

also theres an oustide chance the person who welded it melted the nylon nster in the column and that can cause a bit of play.
