Chitty Chitty Bang! GTT

Strange one!

Car starts fine, idles fine, revs fine, but as soon as you try to pull away it just stutters and backfires.
Let it warm up a bit, turn it off and start it up again, and it's ok for a while.
Anyone come across this before?
All (sensible) ideas gratefully received.

no road speed sensor, well it does but thats fo rth espeedo only, its carbed.

Anyway, this could be a zillion things. Has it always done this or only recently? When was the fuel filter last changed? Is the FPR ok (its in a vulnerable position), are the fuel hoses ok or been affected by heat?

Still got the problem.
Startet about 3 days ago just after the heavy snow.
Gone over all the electrics and air intake and seems fine. Fuel filter was changed quite a long time ago so may be an option. By FPR i presume you mean fuel pressure regulator? This down the bottom of the off side inner wing near the bulk head? Need to check that i think. Not off work until thursday so i will have to put up with it until then when i can get at it in the light.

Ok, a bit more info on the problem.
Seems to be fine above 3000 revs, anything lower and it stutters and goes nowhere.
When it does stutter, the rev counter drops right down and flies back up repeatedly (almost to the bottom, more than you would expect).
Maybe something wrong with the coil???

Fixed

After seeing the rev counter jumping up and down as it was, i went over all wiring to the coil, finally got to the wire to the crank sensor and bingo, a nice little split.

Cut the plug off, removed the pins and old wire, soldered the fresh cut wire back to the pins and put back together. Nice and tidy!

Running nice and smooth now, job done!
