Alfa romeo GTV twin spark 2.0 VVT timing
How the hell does this work ? lol
Basicly a friend of mine owns a GTV twin spark with variable valve timing, it uses a 'variator' in the cam belt chain to change the profile of the cams at different rpm I can see how the Volkswagon mechanical VVT system works (it moves the cams back and forth) but i can't see how the variator on the gtv works. Looked at the cams and you see the profile changes on the lobes but i cant see how it physically changes the profile it uses. There is not a problem with his GTV, it works fine but just interested in how it all works

His GTV is one of the best examples of one i've seen.
Genuine low mileage, previous owner must of worshipped it as the condition of it is i would say just about mint, my mate who now owns it is religious about keeping it in tip top condition too, there is no rust on it what so ever, the only niggle is that the rear bushes for the passive rear wheel steer are starting to show some signs of wear but he has the bushes on order and we shall be replacing those when they have come in

always loved Alfa's styling, just their renowned unreliability as well as expensiveness alround has always put me off.
i think the 147 is probably the nicest ever looking small hatch imo

yeah i like the 147 too, nice looking car.
My mate's GTV has not missed a beat so far and its torquey as fuck, midrange power on it really is fantastic. If we are doing 50 mph side by side both in 5th gear and hit the throttle, the gtv just powers ahead of the 19 although top end is not that different on them (proven on the private test track of course
