172 - 19

Now, how much work will it take to get the 172 lump running on 19 management. Stan suggested it to me so blaim him

I know i'll loose the VVT but never mind! and i have to get it to somehow support a dizzy. I havent had a look at the 172's fly yet, so dont know if thats compatable with the 19's management or if the 19's fly will fit the 172's crank...

Surely it would be easier and cheaper to use the 172 management, rather than bastardising bits of loom and having the head machined up etc, etc?

the 172's management means i have to have the WHOLE loom because of the immobiliser system in the ecu. and then i have to butcher the wiwing loom and take out all the stuff i dont need!

also the head on thew 172 has 2 holes at the end of the head where you stick the cam alignment tool in, so i could run a dizzy off thatr and make an adapter plate...

if you ditch the VVT you can choose one of the 2 cam phase options

1 - good power, but wont idle and wont pass emissions

2 - pass emissions and idle fine, but bugger all power.

Which one would you choose?

thats not strictly true neal, the cams are not that wild, they switch at 1500rpm anyway. Its just tpo get the emmisions down enough.

Won't be any lumpier really than a 16V lump.

and also, when its in the 19 it'll have to meet pre 1992 regulations. which it'll fly through.

Use the lump with an aftermarket management as suggested above by yourself... best option by far.

Yes it does, it goes by year of the engine not of the car.

Standalone ECU all the way if u ask me....running on 19 gear was a suggestion.

I can get the mapping near as damn it on the road for u. Then a couple of hours tweaking on the dyno will see u right.

You have envey bodies already dont you? so £450 on an ecu and your sorted.

DO IT!
