LMGDAO at this. If you think a non PAS 19 is heavy then you should never drive a Rover 200/400 pre-1995 that didn't have PAS added cos they're like trying to push a Challenger tank in circles in wet mud!

Be a man... no pain no gain

Surely it's not that heavy that you hate the car? Just think of it as another quirky French trait

chances are if theres no power steering theres a chance something is seizing up (bottom balljoint/strut bearings) also if the springs have been changed the strut tops may be in the wrong holes

There's not really much to the front ends either other than the engine and my old 1.4 TX Chamade wasn't (From memory) overly heavy which was totally different to the clutch so Chris is prob on the ball.

Mick

Oh and that's me in the picture... it was 1991, I was 15 and i'll have you know that waist coats were cool. The hair style is another conversation!

Have you checked the tyre pressures?

If they're underinflated, the steering will be heavy.

Go for 30psi at the front and 32psi at the back...

yeah thats right tell her how to kill herself.

28psi max on the back and 32 at the front, only way to get the full contact patch of the tyre on the road, little lower even sometimes at the back

Depends on loads of stuff. Road Conditions, Load, driving style, tyres, wheel size etc, etc.

Haynes manual recommends 29 at the front 32 at the back.

Here: PressureGuide says 32 all round.

...which is why I would say that 30front 32back are a reasonable starting point.

I find that the front tyres always need replacing first. I do about 500-750 miles a week on a mix of roads. The rears hardly seem to wear much at all.

Why would you expect the rears too wear so much? The cars front wheel drive and only has drums at the back? All of the work (steering, drive, braking) is done at the front wheels...
