Rear screen de-mister

Seems like the time of year for it, so here goes.

My rear screen de-mister isn't working and i'm trying to trace the fault. The fuse is good, and the switch works

I'm getting nearly 12V across the connectors at the screen when they're unplugged but when I connect them up to the tabs this drops to zero. Does this mean i've got some kind of earth leak somewhere..? The fact that i'm getting strong voltage across the cables means the loom is ok right?

There are no breaks in the heater element but it seems to have a very low resistance. Any ideas where to go on this?

Chedk the HRW earth, this is behind the plastic trim in line with a rear seat passenger shoulder. the plug connector is there as well, check the earth and see if the power feed plug has melted which it probably has.

well that was the first place i looked, seems ok although i haven't cut away the rubber seal from the whole loom yet.

Confusing cos the connectors themselves have a good voltage across them so i thought things were ok that far, i.e. loom intact. it's only when i hook them up to the element that the voltage drops away.

the voltage will drop away a bit as its being turned into heat, it shouldn't all go though

Flat zero, thats why i thought maybe there was an earth leak from the element or something, i'm a bit baffled. Maybe get a chance to look more next weekend.
