R19 16v Clutch/gearbox problems
Hey
Basically a new clutch cable was fitted back in April (before I got the car) and the clutch was heavy but not too bad! Was happily driving around and then it became tricky to get 1st and 2nd (bit of crunching etc). Then I noticed a kinda rumble noise from around the gearbox area! pulled into my house and now, when the engine is running no gears, engine off gear selection is all good. Did a search and the answers were pretty technical so was hoping for some advice and guideline on what to try? Gearbox oil (I hope), new clutch or gearbox (Ut oh!!) Claire |

Sounds similar to a problem i had with mine... changed the clutch cable on mine because it had snapped and the clutch was heavy to operate, within a few days, impossible to get it into gear whilst the engine was running, but could select gears with engine off.
Now the solution, its more than likely the clutch release fork and the pivot bush, the pivot bush is inside the bell housing of the gearbox and the release fork pivots off it to engage the clutch. your release fork and pivot bush are probably worn which is causing this problem and need to be replaced, this means the gearbox has to come out at the very least. When i did mine i took the engine and box out and also replaced the clutch (to save a future job and why not as i have to have the gearbox out anyway) and put on a brand new genuine renault clutch cable (always use a genuine renault one, they fit into the clips around the engine bay and dont seize up unlike pattern parts) Worn pivot bush (whats left of it) the white thing arrowed in the pic and worn release fork at the bottom of the box ![]() New release fork and pivot bush fitted

that depends, doing it myself it cost me £120 in parts - Clutch Kit, pivot bush, release fork, clutch cable, driveshaft roll pin and gearbox oil.
Having it done in a garage, prolly going to be around the £600 - £700 mark. Where do you live Claire? you may be close enough for one of us to do the job if you don't fancy doing it yourself.

well then, the bare minimum you need is the fork, the bush, driveshaft roll pin and gearbox oil, prolly about £50 for that little lot, there is a RR member living in norwich, guy called pete but i cant speak for him as to wether he would do the job or not.
The job can be done in a day (providing it does not piss down with rain lol) Renault part numbers 77 03 067 320 - Roll Pin £0.79 77 00 725 720 - Fork Clutch £19.45 77 00 715 851 - Stop Clutch Fork £0.74 (pivot bush) for gearbox oil, halfords will do, get a 5 litre bottle of automatic transmission fluid (better for the gearbox) and one of those plastic 5 litre oil drainage containers (for the old gearbox oil) - gearbox oil has to be changed with the removal of the gearbox because you need to remove the driveshafts and when the passenger side driveshaft comes out, the gearbox oil will pour out of the box there unless its drained beforehand. If you really get stuck for someone to do the job, and providing i can borrow an engine hoist i am willing to come up to do the job (for petrol money and plenty of cups of tea lol) one weekend, can't do 18th / 19th of this month because i am showing my car at Donny South
