engine noise

I've had a full rebuild done on the engine, went to start her up... and theres a nasty sound coming out of it. Sounds like a pulley or something.. are the belts too tight or something?

could be anything. Could be the tensioner/idler or the water pump etc. pop the aux belt off and see if the noise stops if not look at the cambelt drive gear

Hello Mate,
Ive Done A Re-build On My F7p 16v 1350 Miles Ago. Same As You, Everything Replaced & I Mean Everything.
Ive Also Got Noisy Tappets Right Up Untill It Reaches Temp & They Were Brand New From Renault!
I Had A Few Problems With Mine & Its Only Just Gone Back In Again, All Fixed Now But A F@£king Nightmear! I Had A Really Bad Squeak Just Before It Came Out Again, It Ended Up Being The Engine End Plate Leaking Oil Onto My Aux Belt & It Was Slipping, Causing The Noise. Problem Is You Just Cant See Down That Side Of The Engine. Also, Sounds Stupid, But Have You Checked The Power Steering Fluid????? Could Be The Pump. On My Last 19 The Res Hose Split & It Lost All Its Fluid That Sounded Horrid.

use the halfords style big oil filter, it helps with the noisy tappets, the small ren and equiv filters are half the size they used to be which can also affect pressure - as Dan found out - again.

spoke to a few people and they said i need to run the engine in a little more. I've had it running for 20 mins in the driveway and about a 5 mile drive. I've used castrol GTX 10w 40... so lets just wait and see i guess. i jus HATE noisy tappets!

Cheers for the advise tho mr H

I thought you had been out in the thing!

If the tappets were dry it will take about half an hour of idling to have them all quiet or a good drive.

Also idling and a short 5 min drive is a sure way to have a crap perforoming engine, you need to get the rings sealed properly.

Warm it up and use full throttle to at most 4krpm and back off. Do this a good few times, you need to seat the ring sor it will never have decent bore seal.
