She Wont Start!!

Ok lads, as you should know im no whiz when it comes to cars.

My problem is to do with starting the little bugger, as many of you will know the clutch went a few months ago, and not having the skills or the cash, its been sitting on my drive. Well today i finally sold her.

I went out this morning to start her, to check her over for the new owner, only for her not to start as the battery was completely dead. I just tried jumping it using my work van, it turns over, but just cant quite get there. I thought maybe where its be standing, the plugs might be a tad damp etc, so i dried then out with so kitchen towel and wd40, still no luck, iv been told by a neighbour to try some wd in the dizzy cap, could that work(i dont think it would) but it was only an idea. Anything you lads could suggest?

Cheers
Jimmy

PS - My neighbour also said that the car might have something called 'cold start valves' and these could be sticking!?!

PSS - Its a 1992 19 16v incase your not sure

hmm means its turning quick enough. Does it slow down as its cranking? if the battery on there is totally goosed then it won't be happy.

You left the van running attahced to the 19 and left it 10 or so mins?

can you smell fuel?

if you smell petrol and its cranking quick enough check the spark, if its there then chances are its flooded.

On the left looking from the front (drivers side) the injector loom has a plug connector, unplug it and crank with the throttle full open. It shoudl stutter and run for a bit then die, crank it a few more times to clear it out, reconnect the injectors and it should start up.

This is common especially on cars with poor batteries

if you have a spare spark plug take off and ht lead plug the spark plug into it and rest it on the cam cover, shoudl have a bright blue spark. You can do the same with a screwdriver shank though.

Black plug on the left hand side of the inlet manifold, theres grey wires on it

Ok Chris, when you say the tacho moves, how much should it move? Should it be shooting up, or just small movements??

ignition on it should jump a wee bit, when cranking should go up to around 3/400 rpm

The threashold cranking speed for the ecu to power things up is around 300 ish rpm
