Coolant for F7P

I don't really know anything about coolant theory, etc, but I do know that I have to top up the coolant a bit as it's very close to min level.. Haynes says ethylene/glycol based coolant and thats it, but is there anything else i have to look for when getting some coolant to top it up with? the current coolant looks green, what does that mean?

cheers..

Coolant is usually blue although it looks green when in the reservoir. This colour comes from the additive you mention. If it keeps its colour that's a good sign, if it turns brown that means rust!

Add to the water some of this antifreeze which is available from any motoring shop or service station in the quantity described on the label, fill it to the MAX line when the car's on level ground.

thats no good for the head thats why it rusts

Renault specify a Glycol "Type-D" antifreeze

it must be Glycol based as anything else will over time attack the aluminium that makes up your cylinder head

what's no good for the head, bb?

so if i get an antifreeze that says it's for engines with alu heads, all should be fine?

some of the anteifreezes i've been looking says G12, G30, etc.. what's that in relation to "type D"?

how to make it complicated!

Type D waste of cash.

Top it up with water, if its been in more than a year, drain flush and add in new stuff. Comma coldstream is what I use.

I've been looking at antifreeze and finally found Coldstream, it's not even on Comma's website What am I better using? Coldstream, coldmaster or XTream Red??? The XTream red says it has protection for aluminium engines???

Edit to add: What about flushing the system? Another renault forum recommends using Stergene (a handwashing liquid washing powder if you know what I mean). Radflush??? The coolant is BOGGING!

A high pressure hose usually does the trick when flushing!

what actual colour is type D?

It's a light green aint it?

I hate using orange/red coolants as they stain the bottle orange so even if the coolant is in top nick it still looks shite.

I'm not worried about staining the header tank coz it's manky anyway. Just want to put the best coolant in it for the sake of looking after it and the fact that the person/people before me have looked after everything but the coolant from the state of it! My local factors (the only one) does the XTream Red 5l for £15. They've not got many options actually, XTream red or green, some motoquip red stuff and some blue stuff.

VW use the red stuff, and you can't mix the red with the blue or it gunges up.

Just found this after a search. I'm about to change and flush the coolant on the clio, does it really matter what I put in or will any do?
