Rumbling at 70mph +

Hi,

At precisly 70mph + i seem to get a sudden increased road noise, like a rumble, the wheel wobbles a little bit and does so a bit more when you get faster, but i gues your average user wouldnt care about it, but i can tell something isnt quite right.

Ive had the wheels balaned and it made no difference, could this be the sympton of a duff bearing(s). How do i check again? Jack up and wiggle at 3:15 and 12:30?

Cheers.

bearings could be the cause, but stick the front wheels on the back and see if it moves.

are you using locking wheel bolts or all solids?

Ok will do what wheel shall i put em all on or does it not matter?

Also i was told (by stromba ), that if its a wheel bearing it should be pretty easy to tell which wheel it is coming from.

I cant tell, all i can hear is a rumbling from the front of the car.

just put them on whatever wheel it will rule out different weighted bolts, it happens.

Should be easy to tell on cornering.

Ok well ill have a play on tuesday and see how it goes.

Its one of those times where it would be soooo helpful for someone like yourself to just jump in the car and disgnose it in about 10 seconds, whereas someone like myself doesnt have a clue, oh well.

The only thing i do know for sure is that you dont hear it at all below 70mph.

Ok bk,

Cant really say its made any difference, i checked the bearings for play, the wheels were stiff whatever way you tugged them so im pretty much guna rule them out.

I think the noise just sounds like something is very slightly unbalanced at that speed. the wheel wobbles most at 90mph id say although the wheel doesnt wobble distinctly from right to left, it feels just like a "general wobble".

Its still coming from the front of the car.

Havent tried the 4 wheel nuts on one wheel but tbh dont think it will make any difference.

Can driveshafts become unbalanced?

The driveshaft can be unbalanced if the shaft is a little bit bent.

Ok ill go see if i can see anything out of the unordinary with those then.

ALso i should say that the noise is persistent at 70mph + wheter i am in gear or not, with clutch down or not e.t.c So i would say its safe to say its defo something steering/suspension/wheel problem.

sorry to dig this up ive still had no luck on it but ive had another thought.

Im pretty sure its not the bearings now, its not a bearing noise.

I will explain the noise, imagine you are going 60mph, and you open your window slightly, and you get a pulsating noise that you can feel because the air is resonating in the inside of the car? Im sure everyone has experienced this.

Well its sort of like that that but with all the windows shut. Ive got an inkling it could be warped brake discs.

Its has brand new Discs & Pads all round (1500 miles old now), however the fronts discs look like "ebay specials" and are grooved. Are the symptoms im describing that of warped discs.

What do i need to do to check for warped discs, do i need measuring equipment to check for parrelism?

Cheers guys.

guess i can write that off the list, just been and done a few braking tests, the car brakes in a straight line no problems.

Had the car tracked, made 0 difference.

Stan has checked over the car suspension and said its fine, theres no play in any of the bushes (bar slight play in the ARB bushes but very minor).

However he did mention slight play in both driveshafts when you pull them side to side, he did say it was not excessive tho.

What fookin else can it be!
