clutch problem

hi everyone, im alan and have just got a L reg ph2 R19 16v chamade, the clutch pedal is really stiff,i put a new cable in but its still stiff, DJ motors said that it sounds like the release arm could do with being replaced but they wont do it without changing the clutch!!! got quoted £460 for clutch and release arm!! does anyone know if its possible to replace just the release arm! i know u have to take the clutch out to do it but would it be ok to keep the same clutch in????

well if you're going to all that trouble, might as well just replace the clutch anyway, they aren't expensive. In fact it's probably just the worn clutch at fault anyway, I have the same thing with mine.

Does it slip?

nope dont slip at all, biting point is fine an changes through the gears ok!! cant afford to pay that much out on it at once! would do it myself but not got the time, space, or know-how!!! if it is the arm and i replaced it, it wouldnt cause any harm puttin the same clutch back in would it??

but the thing is the money they are charging is mostly all labour costs as you have to take the box off...it won't cost much more just to swap the clutch...saves you having to repeat the process again when you find out it is the clutch that is fucked

Also, where in the country are you?

There are a lot of people on here who could do the job for you and beat that price.

Better standard of work too as we know our way around a 19

the clutches are stiffer than other cars.

the release arm and the bush it pivots on do wear and make the clutch heavier.

However with a decent clutch and new cable etc don't expect it to be light like a new fiesta.

I can do the work and any other but you'd need to get the car to me for a reasonable rate.

My work is top notch though as plenty will testify.

i got loads of mates who manage and work at kwik fitd. i would not trust them with my car, remember kwik fit is a tyre and exhaust center and by no means a mechanic.
i just had new gearbox and clutch put in my ph 2 chammy. clutch was £57 for an oe 1 and they are not dear to fit i was shopping around and got quotes from £100 to 200 to fit a clutch and gearbox in one go

clutch cable snapped yesterday due to the pressure its under i should imagine, so changed it last nite (took over an hour as it was pitch black) and now today on our way home it went again, so had to start it up while in first gear an drove home in 1st gear all the way!! wasnt very liked coming up the main road upon lookin at it once we were home, the cable is still fine but the part on the self adjusting unit that the cable clips into has snapped so the cable wont stay in place! not worth changing it till i get a new clutch and/or arm fitted really is it?

pedals a common failing, might as well fit it so you can use the thing.
