back shock is ill

hello
so today this strange ratteling comming from the boot-after stopping twice to move stuff in the boot about i noticed the back right shock-what ever was holding it in place under the wheel arch has broken and a bar has risen about 6 inches inside the boot- nothing seems to have torn etc
ive had little dealings with shocks and im not sure exactly what needs replacing-weather its the whole shock (both back shocks i presume) or if its just what ever holds it in place under the wheel arch
she still drives ok-
my local renault dealer has quoted me about €150+vat per shock! does this sound right?
so any help for exactly what part i need and any fast online places that will post to ireland would be great-as ive got my test in less than 10 days and think i may fail with 6inches of shock obsorber inside my car!

chhers in advance

simon

I had the exact same thing happen to me!
As long as the wheel arch is in good order then all you need to do is replace the shock/s.
I put Koni's on mine but can't remember how much.Less than £150 for the pair and you can fit them yourself in less than an hour!!

this is common, the washers that hold the shocker bush corrodes and it pushes through, new shockers are the proper solution, renault are more than double what you'd pay in a factors btw. You could repair it by fitting a new washer onto the shocks.

you just need to replace the little disc thing underneath that sits on the the shock shaft.

It's exactly the same as the one above the rubber donut bit.

Just get down the scrappy and grab one.

ahaa guys thanks so much,
my dad has a few 19s knocking about at home-may risk the drive and chuck in the new shocks-thats interesting about it being the same part above and below the wheel arch...
so i may have to drive about 300k to replace these parts-do you think she will make it that far with a broken shock-or am i ricking more damage?
the whole point of getting the cart was so id never have to sit on another bus again!

cheers again guys

Think it would be wiser if you could get the bits posted mate.

If it were me I wouldn't drive it as you never know what might happen

thats exactly what mine looks like!! same side and everything...

-having issues with the local reno man now..he wanted the chassis number to look up the part-the only number i have for that is an 8 digit code, he says its a 16 digit code starting with a v....in which case all my insurance and tax applications are wrong! so the number is located on the car body when the drivers door is open-is this guy correct or a moran?

dont even know why im talking to him as the parts are gonnna be worth more than the car anyway...

so whats the worst thats gonna happan to my car if i drive to my dads place thats 3 hours away with a missing shock washer??

btw 70+vat per shock from reno...free from my dad-and ill get dinner
