problem changing rear pads, 16v clio

A right nightmare, one of the T20 bolts that hold them in is going nowhere. any tips on removal?n Dom

thats what ive been thinking, is it right that they arent essential coz som callipers dont have them?

All they do is keep wheel bolt holes lined up! My old 19 didnt have them in for 3 or 4 years. Just makes it a bit awkward at time getting wheel back on!

You dont need the pad retaining screws, I had a lengthly dicussion with a reno mechanic on that subject recently when I got pads without the tapped holes.

As neal says, Drill it out.

Scott - you thinking of the disk retaining screws at the front by any chance

Why the long discussion?

Both the pads are held in by the L shaped sliding bar thingy. That can only come out outwards, so if it comes out far enough for the outer pad to drop out, the inner one (which has no bolts) will already be long gone anyway. Quite obvious.

I didn't know that at the time, I hadn't even removed the rear pads at that point, I just saw they were screwed in and figured I'd got the wrong pads so went in for a chat
