In-car audio question

I hate bass, in fact I loathe it. But I am finding more and more that the music I buy requires it and consequently I need a system that will play it rather than making wet fart noises. I currently have the standard R19 kit.

What do I need - can I just get an amp and some better rear speakers? Or do I need to carry around a 'phat sub' in the boot?

The Chamade has the luxury of a rigid parcel shelf.

Cheers!

Depends what you mean by Bass really hun.

If you want the Charlie style growling then amps and 12" or bigger subs will give you the shake and grunt you need.

If like me tho you want bass where its needed which is punchy but not OTT, 8-10" subs or 6x9's with an amp should be fine for you.

Speakers are also different depending what you are after, the speaker of choice for quality is Alpine but you also pay more for them.

Head Unit also has alot to do with it, the likes of Sony love to throw massive amounts of bass at the cost of overall clarity, Pioneer & Clarion are more about clarity of sound so the end quality is quieter but alot clearer and less likely to distort at high volume.

If I were you I'd uprate the head unit and standard speakers first and then see what you think you need, it will instantly sound different and may be enough for what you are after.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

My head unit is a Sony CD player, I'm quite happy with it. I think my next move will be to invest in some decent 6x9s for the rear and work upwards from there - maybe an amp to go with them?

I guess that will also mean replacing the cables running to the rears

changing the cables doesent make that much difference unless ur running amp sub and speakers if your running straight on the head unit standard cables are more than adequate

anyone after quality will forget about rears (except for the sub) and concentrate on a good component system in the front.. when at a concert you don't have an extra band playing behind you either..

No, but at a concert the sound is coming from 10m in front, not 300mm from either side

I like my rear fill lol

No comment!, but it's true that if you only update the front, all the sound will come at you from the front; whereas if you update all around, then the sound will be more central.
