Another In car Audio Question

What size are the dash mounted speakers on the R19.

Got one out and best I can see it's 2inch or 5cm. Looking on car audio sites there seem to be no speakers of that size.

Depending on what you want to achieve with your stereo you could use several speakers to replace the standard dash ones. The ones that are there are simply a tweeter so tbh that's all you need to put in there, however; there are different ways of doing this.

1. Use a component set and run the tweeter from the crossovers running the component set. You can butcher the standard speaker to allow you to mount a tweeter to it or you can cut the grill on the dash and glue the tweeter into the hole.

2. Just run a tweeter off the stock wiring. (Not advised though)

3. Run a 3" or 4" speaker with built in tweeter from the standard wiring. This will work better than option 2 but you'll have to fabricate something to hold the speaker in place.

Out of all of those I'd use the first one but run your own speaker wire and amp the components. You also have to consider the need to place speakers on the dash as the best sound comes from a directional tweeter placed close to the mid bass in the doors.

Thanks Doc. Not wanting to achieve anything more than I have. My issue is that the paper cones in the 2 dash tweeters are disintegrating so just want to replace them. In a cabbie they are a touch exposed if the roof is done and it rains!

Just wanted to confirmt hat the quoted size is the diameter of the cone as they always used to be so i can try and source a straight swap.

Reminds me of a story - in my youth I used to build HiFi and sound equipment. Built a huge speaker cabinet for a base guitar and used the biggest bass driver then available which had a 27inch cone. The cabinet was ported and baffled and stood just over 7 feet high. First outing in anger in a concert hall - bassist hit a low note and the false ceiling in the hall parted company with the building!! Concert abandoned after less than 10 seconds on stage! Boy did that thing have some grunt.

the measurement, is not based on the cone size! external width eg: mounting edge to mouting edge.
