Woohoo the V6 is here, just got it into the garage!

Well my Dad's had a wee gander at it and apparently it's had an auto 'box on it but hopefully it'll take a manual 'box with too much grief!

Pics to come shortly!

Right well have already uncovered a couple of faults:

Radiator top hose split open
Dipstick tube slightly dented

Well funnily enough the dipstick tube has a kink in it so as yet I'm not even able to do that!

Update:

No ECU
Random offcuts of piping/loom wiring
No radiator

You should have bought a whole car for £360:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=9861&item=4549655343&rd=1

Then you have *everything* you need bar a manual box including radiator, ECU, Loom, Clocks, exhaust system, loom etc - plus you could have heard the engine running. Also you've got leather seats, alloys and body parts to sell plus £30 worth of tax...

Yes Addie you're no doubt right mate but like a female I was struck with a combo of eBay fever and impulse buying and before I knew it that 'Buy it Now' button was pressed and I'd commited myself!

Hopefully though I'm not lacking too much in the way of parts. The only aspect of the conversion scaring me is with the electrical side of things, and how it will interface with my 19's loom! Confused

Right, well I've come across a golden nugget of info on the gearbox front. Rupert, the bloke I bought this V6 off is transplanting a 24V V6 engine from a Citroen XM into his Renault GTA. I believe he was going to use this engine but changed his mind.

Apparently, this 24V V6 is based on the same platform, and has a manual gearbox fitted, and he is of the opinion that a similar 'box should fit to mine no problem.

He's been an absolute star and has said he will look into what can be done so I look forward to hearing from him again!

On a side note I've agreed to sell him the air conditioning compressor for £10 + postage so this engine is paying for itself already! Very Happy

This guy is a star, not to mention being a mine of information! I can't believe he's gotten back to me already! This is what he says:

"All of the modern Renault V6 engines are the 60 degree Vee models, yours is an earlier design, a 90 degree engine... In the R25 and GTA it was mounted longditutinally but in the Laguna and Espace it was transverse so had a completely different G'box.

The engine you have may or may not have been an Auto box, I haven't a clue, but from what you have said it is an Auto, so you will need a flywheel/clutch and a suitable box. It is just possible that I have everything you need from the XM.

The compressor looks about the size andd shape of a starter motor, it sounds like you have found the right bit! There is no rush at all.

I'll make some enquiries on the renaultalpine.co.uk site (also free registration).

To make the engine run, you will also probably need a R25 ECU and loom, or a custom system from Emerald or similar (which is what I'm putting on my engine).

Rupert"

He then got back to me with a web address: http://www.vectorbd.com/peugeot/v6.html

This compares all the early 90-degree engine designs that were shared by Peugeot, Renault and Volvo (PRV). Apparently if I can find a manual transverse gearbox from any of these V6 variants it should *in theory* bolt on.

I've also tried to get him to sign up on here as I'd love to see his project unfold!

Well on that website you can download a more informative Excel spreadsheet with all the tech specs of the engines. For the Z7X this tech data is as follows:

Displacement: 2975cc
Valves: 12
Power: 170bhp
V-Angle: 90*
Bore/Stroke: 93/73
Fuelling System: Siemens MPI

This data, along with engine codes reveal a number of relatively rare/unique motors which used the Z7X engine, these being:

Alpine
A610 (Early)

Chrysler
Dodge Monaco
Eagle Premier

Helem
RJ Racing (they added 2 Garrett Turbos that produced 510bhp!)

Venturi
300

no it didnt....when he reved it it gruntted like a v8....they dubbed over it im sure to make it sound better...funny how the yanks influence so much in film making....

the whiney noise i think was added too to make it sound futuristic...or maybe it was the flux capacitor!?
