TBH I don't remember you having mentioned PRV V6 engines before Chris.

Ah well, there seems to be one knowledgable chap on www.renaultalpine.co.uk who has this to say:

"The 24v V6's in the Citroens and Peugeots will mate up with a UN1 box so I would assume any 'box that goes on a PRV block will fit so that would leave you the choice of gearbox from the following cars, XM V6 and 24v, 605 V6 and 24v, Laguna V6, and Espace V6 for definite..."

And the guy who I bought the engine off also has the gearbox and linkage from his XM 24V V6 so I may well be in luck!

Well kiddies after much consideration I've decided to lay this one to rest. The extensive labour and fabrication of parts coupled to the unpredictability in terms of reliability and handling have influenced this decision. There's also the financial undertakings of such a project and also the fact that the car would be off the road for an immense amount of time - this conversion is not something that could be done in a week or two.

As regards the quest for more power, I am considering sourcing a Laguna 2.0 8v engine to transplant. Being 8v, the burn is kept in longer giving a respectable amount of mid-range torque. I've been told that these engines can be tuned to give a power output comparable to an F7R Williams engine. The addition of a turbocharger can also yield gains similar to that of the V6 without sacrificing on handling and weight.

A new conversion thread will be started once I have some definite plans in place. Until then I have to devote my energies to finishing off my exams so don't expect to see any progress on the engine conversion-front anytime soon.

Finally, I'd just like to say thanks to all those who went out of their way to offer encouragement and advice.

Well have had a bit of a think today, and I concluded that to give up without even having a go, or at least having car and engine side by side is a little bit defeatist!

I still have the motivation for giving it a go, and I rarely give up on a challenge (unless involves a pretty lass.....ask spudmurphy). So while I'm completely open to the idea that this may still fall flat on it's face, I'm still gonna give it a go! I certainly don't think it's impossible, and I should be able to pick up a cheap runabout while I'm doing it!

So consider this project 'on hold' for the time being!

I admire your spirit. The 406 coupe lump delivers 225hp transverse. Would that go?

I'm with Chet, buy a Valver shell.

A 3dr valver shell would be an easy pickup - you could easily give it a PH1 kit if you could only get a PH2 shell and would surly only add £100 - £150 to your overall costs. Plus, a 3dr shell (or even a chamade) would add a substantial amount should you ever sell it on over a 5dr hatch.

That the logical way of doing it, I'm willing to bet you go down a totally different route Wink

it doesnt sound like a fun project like chet's more like some american has got hold of a 1.4 and couldnt find where the engine was a dropped a smallish motor lying round te garden (like the ride on mower) why dont you supercharge or turbocharge a valver? a v6 i doubt will handle very well

Of course I've considered getting hold of a P1 hatch, after all it has the EFi fuel tank/pump set-up and better brakes and suspension as standard, but then again the silver one holds a lot of sentimental value and I know I'd be happier with the engine in DKR than I would in any other car. Also has more of a 'sleeper' appeal.
