Well today I just plonked the thing in and got it running, it drives to, well it drives about 5 feet anyway.

Still a few issues like no brake fluid and the brake pedal loom needs plugged in, rear axle swap, leaky exhaust and a few other small issues.

ta-da! Its actually running in these pics

I would say original dash disply bhut this is the upgraded from original one but under 16V spec.

[img:567:378:cdcdfc7cde]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/red%2016V%20engine%20fitted%2004.jpg[/img:cdcdfc7cde]

Few issues, fuel gauge/light not working, the oil pressure gauge not working, oil level works but the needle pings up super quick and bounces! No charge (batt) light but the alternator IS charging the battery.

Heres 2 vids, both taken before the tappets went quite a few seconds later.

Well taxed it etc etc.

Cars now done about 100 miles.

My mum loves it so thats nice, she took it to 110mph before bottling it.

Issues,

the exhaust rattles, used that gay mid section with the side box cut off. Theres no heatshield under the floor as I deemed it not needed, its kinda hot there without it so I will fit it.

Brakes are pish due to no rear adjusters so pedal travel is long but it locks the fronts and stops fine.

Speedo doesn't work as I never fitted the cable.

Idle also goes high when ragged due to no road speed sensor input.

Other than that its all good.

the rear axle will bring the arse down from 4x4 land and improve the braking.

Already annoyed a few wanna be boy racers in it.

Anyway what I done today

Fitted the brake fluid respovoir holder. On the 16V's theres a removable panel with studs for this, on the lower models the scuttle is solid and has no studs, so I had to make some.

Howe do you do that? Well for the factory look I drilled holes then put 13mm bolts in from the back, this pic shows 2 done the 3rd still to go

[img:567:378:fff5315a3d]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/red%20brake%20res%2001.jpg[/img:fff5315a3d]

done

[img:567:378:fff5315a3d]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/red%20brake%20res%2002.jpg[/img:fff5315a3d]

in the scuttle and you can see the bolt heads

[img:378:567:fff5315a3d]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/red%20brake%20res%2003.jpg[/img:fff5315a3d]

fitted the standard airbox as i didn't have a spare cone lying about. Note if doing this conversion its a fooking tight fit due to the ph1 headlights, on the 16V they are shallower, on this I had to move the bulb cover round and it still touches slightly.

Dunno where else to put this at the moment.

But today I finally finishe doff the RSI loom.

Knock sensor wire was the final pice and its done.

I had to make sure the repar was good so popped the ECU plug apart and checked resistance from the knock sensor plug to the ECU plug, perfect as expected

ECU plug open

checking resistance

the repair, the wire is shieled so tin foil was involved

[img:567:378:2ef7fb1c98]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/RSI%20loom%20knock%2003.jpg[/img:2ef7fb1c98]

so someone buy it now its ready.

My mum phoned and said she got me a buffer cheap, ALDI £13 DA buffer, 3 mops with it. Not to shabby tbh!

So we went down, whats that noise? Thats the aux water pump, its never worked and tbh I could never be bothered even looking at it.

Anyway it was now workign and the car had been off for an hour.

Pulled the relay and was greeted with this

[img:567:378:61d9fad8b4]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/red%20aux%20water%20pump%20relay.jpg[/img:61d9fad8b4]

I gave it a good wash with water and all the crap was gone, only thing was a capacitor had broken.

Anyway plugged it back in and tried it 3 times, pump goes off after 8 mins as it should. Nice one.

Then had a wee shot of the buffer, done on the right not touched on the left

[img:567:378:61d9fad8b4]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/red%20buff%2001.jpg[/img:61d9fad8b4]

buffed

[img:567:378:61d9fad8b4]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/red%20buff%2002.jpg[/img:61d9fad8b4]

not buffed

[img:567:378:61d9fad8b4]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/red%20buff%2003.jpg[/img:61d9fad8b4]

So i done the bonnet then had to do other stuff like seal the lagunas exhaust etc.

I did however fit the ph1 alloys with toyos from my chamade to the car

Today I was going to change the dash for the 16V but couldn't be bothered due to the heat.

So I just fitted the speedo cable and ph2 dash display.

So now the speedo actually works and the road speed sensor is present so the car runs much better, no more idling at 1400 rpm when the revs go over 4.5 krpm.

Ph2 display is sadly staying so no digi dash, its staying due to the white - black contrast rather than the green/orange - black contrast of the ph1 dials which my mum struggles with.

So we went out to check the speedo works, put petrol in £10's worth and went home. Then I noticed the smell, obviously it was high enough to pish the fuel out of the tank (1/4 full on the dial).

I tried to collect it but no joy so threw some gaffa tape on with which didn't help either so we went out for a drive instead.

Before we left I got 2 pics

[img:567:378:07ee1fe9b7]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/red%20car%20efi%20tank%20leak%2001.jpg[/img:07ee1fe9b7]

i need a non leaking tank as a matter of urgency folks!

We (Amber, my mum and myself) went to loch Lubnaig which the boys on last years Big Scottish Meet will remember well, got a nice pic of the car, bonnet looks nice in these pics

I lowered the back end about an inch today, dind't want to go overboard and its just temporary until the 16V rear axle gets put on.

Still high but sits much better, I went lower but it didn't look right, so put it back up a tad.

[img:567:378:a1b76234a2]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/red%20car%20lowered%2001.jpg[/img:a1b76234a2]

Compare it to the earlier pics and it sits much better.

Today the camera was being used by someone else so no pics.

But I fitted the gear lever return spring, the heatshield under the handbrake lever and fitted another centre section, a standard 2 box one.

The exhaust no longer rattles off the body, its leak free but the tailpipe hasn't lost much of its nice note so happy with that.

Car still hasn't been driven so when it does it will have a few factors which should make it better, exhaust, gearlever return spring and lowered.

Well today I got some chemical metal. I used it to seal the pinhole leaks, straight away the petrol smell has gone so thats nice.

However its not fixed the leaks totally. The tank doesn't leak, instead the petrol dribble out from behind the filler hose stub!

The chemical metal fitted.

This is a view forward, you can see the other mid section and the heatshild, note the heatshield is loose on the right, thats since been rectified.

Well today with my new compression tester I done a test on the car. More to see if the gauge worked than anything else. so it was a gypo test, throttle shut and cold.

Anyway 1, 2 and 3 all were around 185 PSI and 4 was 180 PSI. Which is EXCELLENT for a new engine never mind one with 104k on it.

Heres a pic of the gauge

[img:567:378:324d066f03]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/red%20comp%20test.jpg[/img:324d066f03]

Cars doing fine except I am being pestered about the leaky tank, its not as bad but still leaks.

With Project B I have some GTT alloys, I think they might suit this car down to the ground, only thing is I would have to go down to RSI spec front brakes.
