Project Maxi
Project Maxi
Published by Wicked Neo
24th October 2007
Introduction

Overview:

The Renault 19 Maxi is a very rare car, in fact i can only find one example of this car which is built by a company in France and I believe to be owned / driven by a guy called Eddie LEMAITRE
He Built and currently competes with the car in European Rallies, it recently won the Suisse Normande Rally 2007.

This is his Renault 19 16S Maxi

This project is to build a replica of that car and will probably take the best part of two years to complete.

I am using Project UCC as the base for this project and will be using the Megane F7R 710 2.0 16v engine to power it

the first thing to do is start the process of collecting parts

new subframe as used on the megane £15 Ebay

Front Grille and Scuttle Covers - Renault £30

Brand new Genuine Renault PAS Rack - £90 (bought from Doc)

New wishbones complete with ball joints - buypartsby.com £30 delivered

Brand new fuel tank, brand new fuel level sender and seals

Well i saw no point in starting a report until work started on the car and TBH its prolly still to early to start one but i've been talking about it for a while to certain members and hinting at it to others so i figured why not...

well its certainly not a weekend job, lol
As stated its going to take 18 months to two years, mainly due to the cost!
Am i mad to spend so much on a 15 year old renault? probably but like Neal, i could either spend the money on a fairly decent 2nd hand car that would still need money throwing at it now and then or rebuild a car that has a solid chassis with as many new parts as possible for as cheap as possible (thanks ebay), getting the work done to the same high standard as Neal's ph1 and have basicly a new car that i will know inside and out and that will be unique and hopefully trouble free for a few good years.

The kit has to be made, it's not one they keep on the shelf.
I've paid a deposit on the kit and it should be ready by February of next year, these guys supplying it are a competitive race team and run the 19 maxi, a megane maxi and a clio super 16 in various forms of motorsport and they sell the body kits / components as a means to finance their love of motorsport, they are a 2 man outfit and are really friendly and helpful guys, i have spoken to them a few times now, getting measurements of the kit and finding out what running gear they use etc

Their 19 Maxi uses Megane Maxi running gear and to give you an idea, a pair of driveshafts for the megane maxi supplied by renault sport are £2500 !!

As my 19 Maxi wont be in that kind of competition useage, thankfully i can compromise in regards to fitting that kind of running gear and will be able to retain much of the original 19 16V setup and keep the cost down.
